ENDOMARCH Greece Run & Walk Event

ENDOMARCH San Francisco 2016

ENDOMARCH Greece organize a NIGHT RUN & WALK at Pireaus, on 11/3/2017, (5km Run, 2.5 km Walk), to raise awareness about endometriosis, an incurable gynecologic disease, a rather underrated public health issue. Assistance from IB students will be greatly appreciated by the Organizers. This will be a great event at a beautiful setting by the sea, CAS hours may be claimed and a significant public health awareness target will be promoted. Το Endomarch Greece 2017 διοργανώνει το πρώτο NIGHT RUN & WALK στον Δήμο Πειραιά το Σάββατο 11 Μαρτίου 2017 (Τρέξιμο 5χιλ./Πορεία 2.5χιλ). Οι διοργανωτές ζητούν βοήθεια και οι σπουδαστές του ΙΒ μπορούν να συνεισφέρουν στη δράση, συμπληρώνοντας ώρες CAS. Το ENDOMARCH είναι ένα διεθνές κίνημα με στόχο την προβολή και ανάδειξη της ενδομητρίωσης ως πρόβλημα της υγείας των γυναικών αλλά και ως ευρύτερο θέμα δημόσιας υγείας, με υποτιμημένη συχνότητα και απώτερες συνέπειες. Οργανώνει δράσεις με σκοπό την αφύπνιση και την ενημέρωση.

Σκοπός των λεγόμενων «Endomarchers» είναι η ευαισθητοποίηση του κόσμου σχετικά με την Ενδομητρίωση. Κάθε χρόνο πραγματοποιούνται αγώνες δρόμου και πορείες σε πολλές χώρες σε όλο τον κόσμο. Παράλληλα η καμπάνια «ενδυναμώνεται» με τη διοργάνωση εκδηλώσεων, ομιλιών για να αναδειχθεί το πρόβλημα και να προωθηθεί επικοινωνιακά η στήριξή του αγώνα κατά της Ενδομητρίωσης...."

From the IB Community Blog: IB Students collaborate

IB Programme students in Goshen, Indiana organised a recycling drive, offering recycling bin barrels to an IB World School in Michigan. They even decorated the barrels. They got the whole community at Goshen involved. Given that the area at Flint, Michigan suffered lead contamination and depended on imported water, recycling water bottles was an important practical issue. Indiana IB students demonstrated the initiative that CAS is all about: caring about ecological issues, serving the community- actually a far-off community, getting other people involved, resolving a practical problem with a personal artistic touch that makes it more thoughtful, not just another project.

A New Year visit at "Hamogelo"

A small group of IB students (Manolis, Maro, Pantelis, Giannis, Nick and Christos) visited the "Hamogelo tou Paidiou" House at Melissia, where children in need find shelter and a permanent family setting. We brought snacks and toys and had a really good time. We played card games and board games and even enjoyed playing football in the premises. We really had a great time, it did not feel like just another must-do charity event. I believe such spontaneous initiatives are very rewarding and we will be organising them more frequently. Cerebral Palsy Greece was founded in 1972 in response to a pressing need for the care of people suffering from cerebral palsy, in Greece. The Open Door Centre of Education and Rehabilitation is a hospitable Greek home, a well-run, well-equipped, operational unit that can compete with the best that Europe has to offer. Step by step, with careful planning, we have built up a wide range of comprehensive services and programmes for the education and rehabilitation of people with cerebral palsy of all ages. These include: medical diagnosis and care, therapy, education, social and psychological support, vocational training, temporary hospitality, permanent residential care and a wide range of recreational programmes to over 240 infants, children, young people and adults on a daily basis, free of charge. Since 2005, a fully registered Public Primary School for children with cerebral palsy operates on our premises.

Βράβευση του "Μαζί για το Παιδί" από την Ακαδημία Αθηνών

Από το 1996 έως σήμερα, πιστοί στη φιλοσοφία μας η οποία συνοψίζεται στη φράση «η ισχύς εν τη ενώσει», έχουμε φτάσει να βοηθάμε περισσότερα από 30.000 παιδιά ετησίως, εκ των οποίων τα 10.000 σε συστηματική βάση αλλά και να συνεργαζόμαστε με περισσότερους από 200 φορείς πανελλαδικά. Οι "Φίλοι της Μέριμνας" αποτελούν ένα από τα σωματεία που στηρίζει η Ένωση "Μαζί για το Παιδί".

Μπορούμε

Το Μπορούμε είναι μία μη κερδοσκοπική οργάνωση με σκοπό τον περιορισμό της σπατάλης τροφίμων και την καταπολέμηση του υποσιτισμού στην Ελλάδα. Στα πλαίσια του προγράμματος «Διάσωση & Προσφορά Τροφίμων», καθημερινά, σώζουμε φαγητό και τρόφιμα από όλους τους πιθανούς δωρητές και το προσφέρουμε, μέσω κοινωφελών φορέων, στους ανθρώπους που βρίσκονται σε διατροφική ανασφάλεια. Boroume (“We Can”) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce food waste and to fight malnutrition in Greece. Through our “Saving & Offering Food” program we save food on a daily basis from many sources and we offer it to charities that help people who are facing food insecurity. Our actions help the most vulnerable in our society as well the environment by reducing organic food waste.

'The Smile of the Child' international liaisons

«Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού» επίσης συνεργάζεται στενά με το Εθνικό Κέντρο για τα Εξαφανισμένα και θύματα Εκμετάλλευσης Παιδιά των Η.Π.Α. (National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children- NCMEC), για την εξεύρεση λύσεων και την εφαρμογή προγραμμάτων παγκοσμίως με στόχο την εξάλειψη των φαινομένων εξαφάνισης και εκμετάλλευσης ανηλίκων. Ένα χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα διεθνούς δράσης, στα πλαίσια της συγκεκριμένης συνεργασίας, αποτελεί η προώθηση και επεξεργασία των στοιχείων των εξαφανισμένων παιδιών στη διεθνή ιστοσελίδα www.missingkids.com, της οποίας αποτελούμε μέλη. Τhe Organization is member of the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), based in Washington, DC.

Yannis Behrakis, Photographer of the Humanitarian crisis in Greece

In 2015, the Guardian picture desk has chosen Yannis Behrakis of Reuters as our agency photographer of the year. Here are the most astonishing moments he captured in two of the biggest stories of 2015 – the refugee crisis and the financial implosion in his home country Greece "...Last year, I was in Suruc on the Turkish-Syrian border documenting the thousands of Kurdish refugees fleeing the town of Kobani. This year on Lesbos, a man I met in Suruc recognised me. 'I made it, man! I made it,' he said " "...The least challenging part of this year was taking pictures. The biggest struggle was the emotional involvement ... it was so sad to see the same thing again and again."

The Reuters photography team led by Yannis Behrakis has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize – the third for the news agency – for its coverage of the refugee crisis in the Aegean. Behrakis, who is Reuters’ chief photographer for Greece and Cyprus, was joined by Alkis Konstantinidis and Alexandros Avramidis and noted that “we showed the world what was going on […] that humanity is still alive”. “We made for these unfortunate people’s voice to be heard. Now with a Pulitzer, we feel that our work has been professionally recognized” Behrakis furher commented on the award.

Older posts: "BOROUME" food collection from local markets initiative

BOROUME is a non-profit organisation that fights food waste by organizing the distribution of surplus food for charity throughout Greece. ΙΒ students are invited to volunteer at the “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” Program and assist to collect unsold fruits and vegetables to be distributed to people in need. There is a choice between several markets and days of the week and assistance will be required for 2 hours in the afternoon. ΕΛΕΠΑΠ

Η ΕΛΕΠΑΠ είναι το πρώτο φιλανθρωπικό, μη κερδοσκοπικό σωματείο στην Ελλάδα το οποίο παρέχει υπηρεσίες αποκατάστασης σε παιδιά από το 1937. Η ΕΛΕΠΑΠ σήμερα λειτουργεί σε άρτια εξοπλισμένες εγκαταστάσεις (Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη, Ιωάννινα, Χανιά, Βόλο και Αγρίνιο), στελεχωμένη με υψηλής επιστημονικής εξειδίκευσης προσωπικό, εφαρμόζει ολιστική προσέγγιση των παιδιών με κινητικές αναπηρίες και αναπτυξιακές δυσκολίες ELEPAP-Rehabilitation for The Disabled, a rehabilitation centre with six branches throughout Greece and more than 77 years of history, supports the development of children with physical disabilities and developmental difficulties and at the same time provides support to their families. ELEPAP offers a series of integrated intervention programs for infants, pre-school and school- age children.

Make-A-Wish

Όταν εύχεσαι, ελπίζεις κι όταν ελπίζεις, παλεύεις. Έχοντας αυτό σαν βασική αρχή το Make-A- Wish (Κάνε-Μια-Ευχή Ελλάδος) κάνει πραγματικότητα τις Ευχές παιδιών με σοβαρές και απειλητικές ασθένειες (παιδιά 3-18 ετών). Η 6η Μαρτίου του 1997 ήταν ημέρα ορόσημο για το Το Make-A- Wish (Κάνε-Μια-Ευχή Ελλάδος) , καθώς πραγματοποίησε την πρώτη του Ευχή. TοMake-A- Wish (Κάνε-Μια-Ευχή Ελλάδος) έχει εκπληρώσει πάνω από 1400 Ευχές παιδιών με σοβαρές ασθένειες. Με αξίες όπως το έντονο κίνητρο Προσφοράς, την Αφοσίωση, τη σωστή διαχείριση, τη πολιτική Ίσων Ευκαιριών, την Ακεραιότητα, την Εχεμύθειακαι τον Επαγγελματισμό επιθυμεί να συνεχίσει να με επιτυχία αυτό το έργο χαρίζοντας το χαμόγελο σε όλα τα παιδιά που πληρούν τα κριτήρια του Οργανισμού. ν). Αποστολή ΜΚΟ

Apostoli NGO- The Charity Organization supported by the Greek Orthodox Church. Η Αποστολή ιδρύθηκε το 2010 από την Ιερά Αρχιεπισκοπή Αθηνών με τη μορφή της αστικής μη κερδοσκοπικής εταιρείας με εθνική και διεθνή εμβέλεια στο πλαίσιο της δραστηριοποίησής της στον ανθρωπιστικό, αναπτυξιακό και εκπαιδευτικό χώρο. Στόχος και συνεχής επιδίωξη είναι η ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΗ να γίνει από σήμερα το μέσο, το εργαλείο, ο ταπεινός συντελεστής ανακούφισης ανθρώπων. Αυτή η απόφαση είναι όχι μόνο η έκφραση της αγωνίας της διοικούσης Εκκλησίας για όσα συμβαίνουν και εκτυλίσσονται τον τελευταίο καιρό στην πατρίδα μας, αλλά και η συμβολή της στο μέτρο του δυνατού, στη συλλογική προσπάθεια που καταβάλλεται από πολλές πλευρές προς αναχαίτιση μίας πλημμυρίδας. APOSTOLI: Supporting 1036 families in need in Northern Greece

Στήριξη στον καθημερινό αγώνα επιβίωσης εκατοντάδων οικογενειών στη Θράκη και Βόρειο Αιγαίο που ζουν κάτω από τα όρια της φτώχειας προσέφερε και το μήνα Μάρτιο ο Φιλανθρωπικός Οργανισμός «Αποστολή» της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής Αθηνών. Η «Αποστολή» παρέχει ξηρά, νωπά και κατεψυγμένα τρόφιμα σε οικογένειες της Θράκης και των νησιών του Βορείου Αιγαίου που αντιμετωπίζουν σοβαρά οικονομικά προβλήματα.

ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ «Η Αποστολή στηρίζει τους Μαθητές»

Greek Orthodox Church, through APOSTOLI NGO organizes food supply to school children and families in need in a discreet way, protecting anonymity within the school environment. “Η Αποστολή στηρίζει τους μαθητές”, προσφέρει στήριξη στις οικογένειες των μαθητών που έχουν προβλήματα σίτισης, με τον κατάλληλο τρόπο, ώστε να εξασφαλιστεί η ανωνυμία τους, η αξιοπρέπειά τους και η μη διατάραξη των σχέσεων που έχουν αναπτύξει στο σχολικό περιβάλλον, αλλά παράλληλα και η επίλυση του προβλήματος στην πηγή του, καθώς ένας υποσιτιζόμενος μαθητής δηλοί την ύπαρξη μιας ολόκληρης οικογένειας που υποσιτίζεται.

MDA

Το MDA Ελλάς είναι ένα φιλανθρωπικό σωματείο για τη φροντίδα ατόμων με νευρομυϊκές παθήσεις Σκοπός μας είναι η βελτίωση της ποιότητας ζωής των μελών μας με νευρομυϊκή πάθηση. Το MDA Ελλάς έχει δημιουργήσει και εξοπλίσει τρείς Ειδικές Μονάδες Νευρομυϊκών Παθήσεων σε μεγάλα Νοσοκομεία της χώρας (Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη και Πάτρα) με στόχο την εξειδικευμένη ιατρική κάλυψη των ασθενών, χωρίς να πρέπει να διανύσουν μεγάλες αποστάσεις από τον τόπο κατοικία τους. Το “Σπίτι” του MDA Ελλάς

MDA Hellas "Home" at Athens city center, will provide support, training programs and activities to people with neuromuscular disorders. Πρόκειται για ένα κτήριο 700τμ., στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, στην οδό με το συμβολικό όνομα «Ελπίδος» που είναι από πολλών ετών διαμορφωμένος πεζόδρομος. Κύριος σκοπός του MDA Ελλάς είναι η βελτίωση της καθημερινότητας των ασθενών με νευρομυϊκές παθήσεις και ακριβώς αυτόν τον σκοπό θέλουμε να εξυπηρετήσουμε με όλες τις υπηρεσίες που θα παρέχονται στο «Σπίτι» μας. Στους χώρους του κτηρίου που θα διαμορφώσουμε θα παρέχονται υπηρεσίες που θα στηρίζονται στις αρχές της ανακουφιστικής φροντίδας.
